John Louderman Scott, age 90, of Milltown, New Jersey, peacefully passed away on December 31, 2025.
Born on December 15, 1935 in Jersey City, John was the son of the late Vera G. Louderman Scott Gallo and Joseph A. Scott. He had four siblings, Joseph Scott, Virginia Scott Haindl, David A. Scott, and Richard A. Scott.
John was humble, kind, and gracious. He was a loyal friend, slow to anger, and laughed easily and frequently. John grew up in Jersey City and loved playing all types of sports. Like his siblings, he had above-average athletic skills. John graduated from Saint Michael's High School in 1954. From 1955 to 1957, he served in the U.S. Army where he participated on a baseball camp team that competed against other camps. He proudly recalled pitching a complete game two-hitter. He met his beloved wife, Ann M. Reddington, where they both worked at General Electric, and they married on January 9, 1960 at St. Paul the Apostle Church in
Jersey City, New Jersey. He began his 45-year career in shipping logistics for SeaLand, received his BA in Business from Rutgers Newark in 1972. Later that year, he moved his young family to New Orleans, Louisiana until 1975 when they returned to New Jersey, settling in Milltown for 46 years. Throughout his life, John was an avid collector of sports and entertainment memorabilia, namely autographs, documents and publications. His collection has been featured in auction houses such as Sotheby's. He enjoyed participating in auctions, both buying and selling, over the years. Notably, his collection included the autographs of hall-of-famers Babe Ruth and Christy Mathewson, along with scores of others. John was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and life-long member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Milltown, New Jersey. He is pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Ann M. Scott, his daughter, Susan E. Scott Trush, and his brothers, David A. Scott and Richard A. Scott. He is survived by his sister, Virginia Haindl, sister-in-law Janet Scott, sons Joseph B. Scott (Meridith), John L. Scott, Jr. (Regina), and Michael P. Scott, and his grandchildren, Samantha, John III, Mary Ann, Faith, Susan, Lauren, Shaye, Sadie and his great grandson, John L. Scott IV. The family will receive relatives and friends for a viewing on Sunday, January 4, 2025 from 3-6pm at Carmona Bolen Home for Funerals, 66 Lacey Road, Whiting, New Jersey, 08759. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 5, 2025, at 10:45am at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 30 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting, New Jersey, 08759. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer's New Jersey in honor of Ann Scott.
