Connell Funeral Home, Inc.John J. Sefranek, 93, of Bethlehem, known as "Pop" to his grandchildren and "Johnny" to his family, passed away on March 16, 2026.
He was born on October 11, 1932, to the late John S. and Mary (Peterka) Sefranek. He was the loving husband of Patricia A. (Sopko) Sefranek.
John proudly served his country in the United States Navy, during the Korean War as an Engineer Chief for four years, where he received medals for National Defense Service and Good Conduct. When he came home, John went on to establish himself as a barbershop owner - mentoring three of his own apprentices - and worked part-time as an electrician. He met and married his wife Patricia in 1959, and together they built a life that would span over six decades. Later in life, John retired from B.Braun Medical as a maintenance technician and was a member of Holy Infancy Church of Bethlehem.
John will be fondly remembered at the kitchen table fixing broken things, settled in his recliner reading the newspaper, and in the garden growing tomatoes. He enjoyed going to dinner with his family, never met an ice cream cone he didn't like, and could be found around the neighborhood talking with friends. More recently, he loved nothing more than a warm sunny day spent on the porch swing, breathing in the country air. John was so loved by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he passed on his life experiences and knowledge to them every chance he had, because taking care of his family was always at the center of everything he did. He leaves behind a legacy not just of hard work, but of a life well and fully lived.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 67 years, Patricia; three daughters, Karen, Diane, and Linda; three grandchildren, Michael, Brianna, and Taylor; and two great-grandchildren, John and Talia.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by siblings Wilma, Mildred, Edward, Francis, and Charles.
A memorial service with Military Honors will be held at Holy Savior Cemetery on Thursday, April 9th, at 11 a.m. Family and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in John's honor.
