John, known as Jack, was born in Pontiac, MI to John Seifert & Minnie (Meyer) Seifert. Jack graduated from Walled Lake High School in 1950. After initially training to be a jockey in high school, he enrolled in General Motors institute. While there he was drafted into the Army 2nd Infantry division during the Korean War. He served two years at Fort Lewis, Washington where he ran the regimental post office. While there he met Mitzi Bassette, who became his wife of 68 years. After being dismissed from the army they settled in Union Lake Michigan where they raised their 4 children.
Jack worked for Pontiac Motor Division as a draftsman for 35 years. After he retired, he worked at Bosch and Handy & Harmon for about 6 years before fully retiring. At that time Jack & Mitzi moved to their home in Northern Michigan near Gaylord.
Jack was a member of the Community of Christ Church, where he held several priesthood offices. He devoted his ministry to several congregations over the years. Jack was also an avid golfer. He was very passionate about softball and organized several congregational softball teams. He played well into his 70's. Jack was a pilot and loved all things aviation. He loved to fly his plane any chance he could. Jack and Mitzi spent numerous winters in their second home in Mission, TX. For many years, he would fly them there and back himself. While in Texas Jack played on a pool league as well as managed the shuffleboard league at the park where they resided.
Jack loved to spend time with his family. He enjoyed "learning" his kids and grandkids. Some of his favorite things he enjoyed doing with his family was to take them for golf cart rides and going berry picking. After losing his beloved wife, Jack moved in with his daughter, Cheryl. Shortly before his passing, he was diagnosed with ALS. He spent his remaining months in the loving care of Sandy Side Senior Home in White Lake.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mitzi. He is survived by his brother James Seifert (Jan), his four children Cheryl Seifert, John Seifert (Dusty), Mark Seifert (Kim), Alan Seifert (Maureen) and his 5 grandchildren Alicia, Erik, Matthew (Rose), Dr. Laura (Travis), and Samantha.
In Leu of Flowers, the family requests donations to be made to any of the following organizations: Paralyzed Veterans of America, The ALS Foundation or McLaren Hospice
