John Shaw Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery on Jan. 22, 2026.
John Marvin Shaw Jr., born on September 4, 1962, passed away on January 10, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and quiet strength that will be remembered for generations. His life was defined by deep commitment-to his family, to his faith, to his country, and to the people fortunate enough to know him.

John proudly served in the United States Navy for 24 years, dedicating his career to the values of honor, courage, and commitment. Through hard work, leadership, and steadfast integrity, he rose to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. His service shaped not only his own life but also the lives of those he mentored and led, leaving a lasting impact on the sailors who served beside him.

On May 28, 1983, John married the love of his life, Shelley Callahan, beginning a partnership marked by unwavering support, shared laughter, and a bond that only grew stronger with time. Together, they embraced life with a spirit of adventure-traveling to new places, visiting their children and grandchildren whenever they could, exploring the world side by side, and creating memories that became the heartbeat of their marriage. One of their greatest joys was attending concerts of their favorite bands, sharing the music they loved and the moments that made them feel most alive. These experiences became treasured chapters in their story, reminders of the joy they found simply by being together.

John is survived by his devoted wife, Shelley Shaw; his parents, John Marvin Shaw Sr. and Jackie Lee Shaw, who nurtured the foundation of the man he became; and his children, each of whom carries a piece of his spirit: John Shaw III and his spouse Stefanie Shaw, Leah Hensley and her spouse Joshua Hensley, and David Shaw and his spouse Erin Rennie. John's pride and joy were his seven grandchildren, whose lives he enriched with patience, humor, and a gentle presence they will never forget. He delighted in watching them grow, celebrating their milestones, encouraging their interests, and sharing moments of simple joy that became treasured memories. To them, he was a source of comfort, laughter, and unwavering love-an anchor they will carry with them throughout their lives. He is also survived by his brother, Kevin Shaw, and his spouse, Elizabeth Shaw, as well as his beloved nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

John's presence was a quiet blessing-steady, thoughtful, and deeply sincere. He uplifted others through simple acts of kindness and a genuine compassion that left a lasting impression. The impact he made on the lives of those around him will endure for years to come. Even in his absence, his presence remains deeply felt. His steady support, gentle humor, and heartfelt compassion created an enduring legacy. The love he gave and the strength he demonstrated will continue to guide his children, grandchildren, and all who follow. His memory will live on through the stories shared and the lives shaped by his quiet strength.
