John Sidoran Obituary

John Sidoran, 89, of Camden, went to be with his Lord on February 5, 2026. He was born in Utica on May 12, 1936 and raised on a farm where he worked hard and learned a lot about animals. He went to school in a one room schoolhouse on Mexico Rd., now called Route 69. At a young age he learned a strong work ethic and to respect his elders.

While John was in high school, he was a prankster and enjoyed living life. He wanted to travel so he joined the United States Marine Corps. He was sent to Basic Training in Paris Island, SC, and when he came home to visit his friends, he met a college girl from New Jersey. They were married in 1956 and started a family. He was proud to serve his country and enjoyed his career in aviation. He served 13 months in Vietnam during the war and when asked about being there he never wished to talk about it.

John was an avid motorcycle rider and used to race them, including competing in one in Japan. His love for motorcycles prompted him to get each of his children one and they enjoyed riding alongside him throughout the country, including Gold Bar in California.

When John retired from the Marines, he and his family were living on the West Coast. They decided to take a two-month trip across America, enjoying the sites along the way, as they made thier way back to the farm he grew up on in Camden.

While trying to recover from a bladder infection and a fall, "Pop", as his children called him, his granddaughter and two of his four great-grandchildren visited him. While they were there, they read to him some letters his wife had written years ago to people back home. She was expecting their first child and she told of how good John took care of her and how hard he worked for his family. He responded very well to the old letters and many family members stopped in to visit with him. It's always good to get to know someone you love, even when it is late in life.

God is so good, and at age 88, John accepted Jesus as his Savior. It is a blessing to know that he has eternal life through Jesus Christ.

John was married to his first wife, Ilene, for 35 years. He was later married to his second wife, Marilyn, for 35 years before her passing. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Wanda. John is survived by his first wife, Ilene; three children, James Sidoran, Vicky and Jeff Witzigman, and Gary Sidoran; his sister, Carol Sidoran; grandchildren, James Sidoran, Kristen and Erin Armstrong, Susie Witzigman, and Jason Witzigman; great-grandchildren, Angelo Rivera, Jayda Witzigman, Liam Armstrong, and Kiera Armstrong; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 9464 State Rt. 13, Camden, on Wednesday, February 11th from 4-6:00 p.m. A service with Military Honors will follow at 6:00 p.m.
