John M. Simensen, of Burlington, NJ, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024. Born in Camden, NJ to the late Just Einar and Josephine Naomi (nee Strom) Simensen, he was 96 years old.
John was the beloved husband of the late Alice (nee Stewart); loving father of John H. Simensen (Evelyn) and Stephen C. Simensen (Barbara); cherished grandfather of Erica S. Hahn (James), Alison S. Keller (Michael), Christian J. Simensen (Paige), Stephen M. Simensen (Rachel) and Jonathan T. Simensen (Michelle); and great grandfather of 10 beautiful great-grandchildren. John is also survived by many extended family members and friends who will miss him greatly.
John was a US Navy veteran, having spent his Navy time on the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge, where he first learned radio and communication technology flying in the backseat of carrier-based fighters. Following the Navy, he met and married Alice, the love of his life, on November 12, 1949. In the 1950's, John worked for Philadelphia radio stations, completed TV technology studies in night school at Temple University, and began a long and successful career at Bell Telephone Co. of Pennsylvania.
John was a Master Mason 32d and OES Grand Patron in the state of NJ. He was a Ham radio operator. He enjoyed leading our Cub Scout troop, our Little League team. And, he enjoyed skiing, golf, and travel.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Givnish of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 North, on Saturday, September 14, from 10 to 11 am. A service will begin at 11 am, which will be livestreamed: https://www.viewlogies.net/givnish/L6Dil6dyX?pin=793857. The service will be followed by entombment in Locustwood Mausoleum, Cherry Hill.
