John Joseph Simmons, 72, of Knox, IN passed away surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, April 3, 2025. He was born on July 11, 1952 in Chicago, IL to the late Clarence J. and Frances M. (Reiter) Simmons. John graduated from St. Lawrence High School in 1970. In the mid-1970s, he moved to Indiana, where his grandparents owned a farm. It was there that he began his career as an electrician, a path that eventually led him to meet his future wife, Laurie, while they were both working at her father's store. On January 14, 1978, John married the love of his life, and together they raised two daughters, Amanda and Jennifer. As their family grew, his career progressed, first serving as an electrician and later on as a Trades Foreman at Valparaiso University for 15 years. Later, he became the proud owner of the Dairy Queen in Culver. John also worked at Michiana Contractors in Plymouth before retiring in 2014, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.
John was a devoted family man who cherished the time spent with his loved ones, especially during the summer months when the family gathered around the pool most weekends. He had a passion for gardening and home projects, always tending to his meticulous lawn with pride. Whether mowing the grass or tackling a new project, John's attention to detail was unmatched. He had a great sense of humor, often sharing jokes and always enjoying the finer things in life, like a good cigar, a sweet treat, or a cold black & tan. John was a loyal fan of his favorite sports teams, always cheering on the Bears, White Sox, and Notre Dame. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
