John J Sittig, husband, father, and retired insurance executive, died on December 14th 2024 at his home in Jacksonville Florida, surrounded by family.
John moved to Florida from Michigan in 1959 and worked for the Independent Life and Accidental Insurance Company after graduating from the University of Notre Dame. He worked for Independent Life for 35 years and retired as a Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer as well as a Director and Treasurer of Independent Fire Insurance Company and its subsidiaries. John was a charter representative of the Florida Life and Health Guaranty Association and served as its Chairman for several years. He was also a board member of the National Organization of Life and Health Guaranty Insurance Associations and served as a board member of the Guaranty Reassurance Corporation.
John was a charter member and Past Grand Knight of North Jacksonville Council of the Knights of Columbus Council #5407. He also taught RCIA at Prince of Peace for over 18 years and was a Kentucky Colonel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Frances (Stuppi) Sittig and seven siblings (Paul, Loretta, Ray, Robert, Teresa, Marilyn, and Florence). He was married to Sandra Barnes for 48 years, and previously married to Irene Gaines for 14 years. His surviving children are Jospeh Eugene Sittig (62, Royal Oaks California and wife Cathleen Venn Sittig), Jeralynn Elise Sittig Cossman (57, San Antonio, Texas and husband Randolph Borland Quinn), Jennifer Renee Sittig Frank (52, Jacksonville Florida and husband David Louis Frank), Lisa Dawn Sittig Hargrove (46) and Amanda Leah Sittig Jordan (43). He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Shane Luke McLaughlin, Colin David McLaughlin (Lara), Luke Joseph McLaughlin, Katharine Drexel McLaughlin, Quenton Isaiah Frank, Dylan Louis Frank, Laura Renee Frank, Nicholas Kyle Johnson, and Rachel Lynn Hargrove. And, he was survived by two great grandchildren Oliver Ray and Joseph Grant Johnson. He was predeceased by his daughter Laura Leone McLaughlin.
