John Lawrence Slay, Jr., age 76, a native and longtime resident of Molino, FL, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Friday, January 17, 2025. John is preceded in death by his mother, Norma Jean Phillips, father, John Lawrence Slay, Sr., and grandson, Andrew Ross Davis. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sandra Faye Slay, daughters, Wendi (Jeff) Vowell, Heather (Rodney) McKinney, Jennifer (Jimmy) Allison, Jessica Davis, and son Robbie (Tasha) McLaney, ten grandchildren, Chandler Slay, Nathan Harris, Collin Scott, Madison Kendrick, Morgan Maracle, Zachary Allison, Kenzy McLaney, Mattie McLaney, Jax McLaney, and Meredith Davis, two great grandchildren, Ryleigh Scott and Oakleigh Scott, one sister, Tonjia Chastang, and four brothers, Danny (Bonnie Sue) Slay, Richard Slay, Tracy (Traci) Slay, Lee C. Phillips, Jr. (Jill), and his close friends, Rickey Beasley, Ronny Beasley, and Bobby Whitegon, many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
John grew up in Brownsville and was a graduate of J.M. Tate High School. He joined the U.S. Army in 1966 and served for three years, was a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves for seven years, worked for Escambia County for 30 years and retired from there in 2007. John loved his family with no limits, his puppy Harley, his motorcycles, cars, and spending time at the casino. John was the bright, shining light of our family and he will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Faith Chapel North, with funeral services to be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM. Official burial will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola at 1:00 PM. Pall bearers are Nathan Harris, Collin Scott, Robbie McLaney, Jimmy Allison, Bobby Nigh, and Jordan Maracle. Honorary Pallbearers are Chandler Slay, Zachary Allison, Jax McLaney, Bobby Whitegon, and Rodney McKinney.
