John Lee Sloan, Jr. of Dixie, La passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
John was born on April 3, 1967, to Pam and Jimmy Lee Sloan. John, from a young age, began his lifetime of devotion to continuing his family legacy of farming at Cairo Plantation in Dixie.
John was a true southern Renaissance man with many interests and connections. Throughout his life, he cherished the many relationships he built with everyone he met. He never met a stranger and he would immediately form meaningful connections. He was an avid "archaeologist", spending countless hours searching for relics along the Red River and surrounding areas. John loved everything life had to offer. He cherished an outdoors lifestyle and lived everyday exploring what the world had to offer.
Countless friends will miss John's infectious smile, enthusiasm for life, and friendship. Through many trials and tribulations, John never missed an opportunity to help a friend or just enjoy a laugh.
John is survived by his loving wife, Tanya Howard Sloan; his son, Sawyer Littlejohn Sloan; his mother, Pamela Sloan Street and husband, Bob Allen; stepchildren, Brittnee Paige Thompson, Caleb Wade Wiley, Brayton Kyle Howard, and Erika Grace Blankenship; and step-grandchildren, Aiden Wade Wiley, Nora Olivia Nelson, and Everette Ray Thompson.
John is preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Lee Sloan; his brother, Martin Harlan Sloan; and his sister, Pammi Sloan Muscarello.

He took the surfer out of California for two months when I was homeless and struggling and let me stay with him. He put me to work, farming pecans during the winter of 2014. I learned to pull a tractor with a harvester! It was an experience I will never forget. When I got the news I was heartbroken. I will never forget my time in the south. And I will never forget my friend John Sloan

I knew John through a good friend of mine. My time around John was always uplifting and he always seemed larger than life with his charisma. My thoughts and prayers are with all those close to John, as I know there is a lot of confusion and sadness for this event. Peace be with you.

I know John most of my life, he always had a smile or yell at me every time he would see me. Saying where you been hidden my friend . He would stop at Cecile Planation on his way to Caspiana to see my cousin. He would stop and always give me a hug.
I will miss John for just the joy he brought to people and he was always willing to lend a hand if you needed it. But I know he´ll never be alone! God bless you!
