John Slovick Obituary

John A. Slovick, 87, of Royal Oak, MI, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2024, surrounded by his adoring family. He was born on July 30, 1937, to the late Michael and Marie (Cassidy) Slovick. Known to most as "Jack," he was the devoted husband of Rose, the love of his life, for fifty-two wonderful years; cherished father of Lynne (Scott) Fowler of Nashville, TN and loving grandfather of Jack Dennis Fowler who proudly holds his namesake. Mr. Slovick is also survived by his sister Kathy (Terry) Swasing of Pennsylvania and many loving extended family and friends.
Jack spent most of his life in the Detroit area and often traveled back "home" to the hills of Pennsylvania to visit his loving parents and sisters Rose (Kutchman), Kathy (Swasing). At a very young age, he left his home of Patton, Pennsylvania to pursue his dream career in the Motor City and worked alongside his Aunt Helen (Krul) for many years. Jack was a caring, loyal, hardworking man who always lit up a room with his smile. His love and devotion to his family defined him and his undeniable sense of humor endeared Jack to all who met him. He was blessed with numerous close friends who he also considered family.
Jack was a preeminent storyteller and brought joy to everyone he met. His love and knowledge of automotive history was unparalleled and his laughter was infectious. Some of his happiest moments included spending time with family, walking the beaches of Hilton Head Island, SC, picking up the freshest veggies at the Farmer's Market in Royal Oak and especially attending one of the many automotive events in the Detroit area. Cars were a passion for Jack, and he was always excited to swap stories with many of his automotive enthusiast friends in the community.
Jack was a man of faith and pillar of strength with a genuine, loving heart. His legacy will leave a beacon of light for all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed by many.
A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11:00 AM, Sunday, October 20th at Guardian Angels Church, 581 E. 14 Mile Rd., Clawson.
Inurnment will follow privately in Pennsylvania in November.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to Capuchins Soup Kitchen, Development Office, 1820 Mount Elliott St., Detroit, MI 48207, or the Michigan Heart Association, 26555 Evergreen Rd., Ste 570 Southfield, MI 48076, allowing his legacy of kindness and compassion to continue.
Thank you for keeping the Slovick family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
