Edward John Lynch

Edward John Lynch, 93, of Royal Oak, Michigan, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, at home, surrounded by the loving care of his family.

Ed was married for 69 years to the late Mildred "Billie" Lynch. Together they raised six children in Royal Oak: Colleen (Dr. Ken Williams), Edward M., Suzanne (Clyde Mason), Timothy, Sharon, and Daniel. He is also fondly remembered by three grandchildren, Carrie (Keith), Robert (Christine), and Tess, and by many extended family and friends.

Born October 20, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, he was proud of his Irish heritage and cherished his lifelong love of music, often playing accordion and piano. He was a graduate of St. Benedict High School in Highland Park and earned both an undergraduate degree and an MBA from Wayne State University.

Ed's career as an educator and administrator spanned decades of dedicated service. He served as a professor of business and economics and as Dean of Business, as well as Dean of Technology and Occupational Education at Macomb Community College. He played a pivotal role in expanding Applied Technological Programs at Macomb's South and Center Campuses during the 1970s, 1980s, and into the early 1990s. His leadership helped countless students prepare for successful careers and contributed to the growth of technical education in Michigan.

A thoughtful and principled leader, Ed also shared his knowledge beyond the classroom, serving on numerous state and federal advisory committees and offering testimonies before Congress during the Gerald R. Ford administration. Ed's legacy lives on in the love of his family and the many students and colleagues whose lives he touched. He will be remembered for his integrity, curiosity, and devotion to education and community.

Family will receive friends on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until Rosary at 6:00 p.m., at A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers, & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Avenue, Royal Oak, MI 48073.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 3400 S. Adams Rd., Auburn Hills, MI 48326. Visitation begins at the church at 10:30 a.m.

Burial will be held privately next to his beloved Mildred at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan.
