Michael Pegg Obituary

MICHAEL GENE PEGG – DEVOTED HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER, BROTHER, AND FRIEND

Mike Pegg was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was defined by his deep commitment to his family, a tireless work ethic, and a warm sense of humor that made everyone around him feel at ease. Known for his diligence, kindness, and quick laugh, Mike spent his life taking care of the people he loved. After spending a beautiful night celebrating his birthday with his closest family, Mike passed away in Birmingham, Michigan on March 8, 2026, at the age of 76.

Mike was born March 2, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan to Robert "Bob" Pegg and Elizabeth "Jean" Pegg, both of whom preceded him in death. He grew up in Livonia, Michigan and graduated from Franklin High School in 1968. Mike proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After completing his military service, he returned home and attended Lawrence Technological University.

On August 2, 1974, Mike married Kathleen "Kathy" Pegg (née Barone) at the Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak, Michigan. Their marriage was built on partnership, loyalty, and devotion, and together they created a loving home centered around family. They were married for over fifty years, and were rarely away from each-other's side.

Mike spent more than forty years working at Ford Motor Company, where he built a long and respected career. Although he worked in various roles over the years, his training and experience as an engineer reflected the analytical mind and steady dedication he brought to everything he did.

Family was always at the center of Mike's life. He was the proud father of Jennifer (Steve) Budd and Melissa (Grant) Munson, and the loving grandfather of Brandon, Alexa, and Ethan. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was his daughters' biggest fan, cheering at sporting events and pushing them to be their best. A doting grandfather, Mike was always wrestling, building Legos, building pinewood derby cars, and a constant presence in the children's lives.

He is also survived by his siblings Kathy (Bob) Fritz, Beth (Dave) Hinman, Tim (Kim) Pegg, and Scott (Stephanie) Pegg, as well as many nieces and nephews. As the eldest of five siblings, Mike was a constant source of strength and support for his parents.

Mike had a lifelong passion for cars and especially loved his Torino and later, his Mustang. He appreciated craftsmanship, engineering, and the joy of the open road. He adored Kathy's home-cooked meals and was a devoted cookie-monster whenever she baked. He also quietly gave back to his community through volunteer work with Children's Hospital of Michigan.

Those who knew Mike will remember a man who was dependable, thoughtful, and always ready with a laugh. He worked hard, cared deeply for his family, and took pride in making sure the people around him were taken care of. His steady presence, humor, and generosity will be deeply missed.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 6:30 PM at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Directors, Royal Oak. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at the funeral home at 6:30 PM.

Interment will take place Friday, March 13, 2026, 10:45 AM at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan, followed by a luncheon.

Memorial tributes may be directed to Children's Hospital of Michigan or Gleaners Community Food Bank
