John Raymond Solon, age 91, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at AnMed Medical Center.
Born February 21, 1934, in Mansfield, OH, he was a son of the late Sam W. Solon and Viola P. Szczyglieski. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Solon and Sam Solon.
John was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was an instructor and member of 395th Strategic Air Command and missile squadron in Vandenberg AFB, CA. He was a member of American Legion Post 14. John was an avid outdoorsman. John and Albertine moved to the Anderson area in 1995. For the next 30 years he enjoyed fishing at nearby Lake Hartwell, golfing at local courses, countless hours of tinkering, crafts, and wine making. During his retirement years he enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends and helping others. He was a volunteer at AnMed Medical Center for several years. He loved staying busy, but spending time with his spouse was the most important thing to him.
He is survived by his wife, Albertine M. Lanteigne Solon; sons, John R. Solon, Jr., Mark Solon, and Robert Solon; daughters, Cindy Chuhaloff, Debra Brawdy, and Susan Solon; fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 1:00 pm at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery with Reverend Bob Solon officiating.
The family requests no flowers. Any donations can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1200 Cornelia Rd., Anderson, SC 29621, or to the American Cancer Society.
