John William Spears, Sr., 92, of Danville passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025. Born September 27, 1933, he was the son of the late John Y. Spears, Jr., Willie Mae Stagner (Letcher) Smith, and stepmother, Evelyn Hayes.

In addition to his parents, John was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Leathers Spears and by a brother, Adelbert Spears.

John retired from Corning and North American Phillips after 37 years. He loved fishing, deer hunting, flea markets, and socializing. He attended Hopewell Baptist Church. John was a US Army veteran.

John is survived by a daughter, Terry (Doug) Wesley of Danville; son, John William "Johnny" (Jackie) Spears, Jr of Danville; brother, Eddie (Eileen) Smith of Independence; sisters: Eileen Sheperson of Gravel Switch, Cathy Jones of Harrodsburg, and Joyce Smith of Harrodsburg; 3 grandchildren: Sabrina (Rodney) Stevens of Somerset, Emily (Braden) Paterson of Arkansas, and Rachel (Ty) Gilkison of Danville; 8 great-grandchildren: Gavin and Bella Stevens, Callie, Colton, and Cooper Paterson, and Alanna, Kelsey, and Jackson Gilkison; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial Contributions are suggested to W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home to help with cost.

Visitation is 5-8 pm, Monday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Tuesday at 11 am with Bro. Doug Wesley and Pastor Jay Adkins officiating. Pallbearers are James Cutter, Ty Gilkison, Tyler Isaacs, Jack Sheperson, David Ferrell, Jeremy Clements, Gavin Stevens, Ethan Rice, and Braden Paterson. Burial is at Danville Memorial Gardens.
