John "Mark" Spencer, 77, of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 16th, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones, following a long battle with Parkinsons Disease. John was born on December 29th, 1947, to John W. Spencer and Grace Eileene Spencer (McGee), who precede him in death. John was a graduate of Hammond Gavitt High School in 1966. John retired as a union carpenter out of the local 599. John loved model trains and had a nice collection. He also loved spending time with his family. He married Gail Spencer (Pofahl) on the 28th day of October in 1978, who survives him. John is also survived by his stepdaughter Kelly (Jason) Swart of North Judson, IN and his sister, Regina Deakin of Schererville, IN. John is also survived by his grandchildren Justin Haga and Ethan Swart. He is also survived by his stepson Cody Pofahl. He is also survived by his nieces Debora and Cynde and nephews Joseph Deacon III and Robert Alan Deacon. John is preceded in death by his son John C. Spencer and his niece Beverly Malone. There will be a celebration of life gathering held on December 26th, 2025, from 5p.m. to 8p.m. at Bartholomew Funeral Home. Memorial Donations can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, P.O. Box 5014 Hagerstown, MD 21741, on John's behalf. Bartholomew Funeral Home is entrusted with handling funeral arrangements.
