John (Jack) E. Stansfield, age 100, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 26, 2025 of natural causes.
Jack was born in Lowell on May 29, 1925, the youngest of three, predeceased by his sister Nora and brother Lincoln, from parents who emigrated from Nelson England, the late Joseph & Lucy (Ogden) Stansfield.
Jack graduated from Lowell High School and the Army Air Corps Officer School where he subsequently served as a navigator on a B29 during WWII.
Upon discharge he worked with his father and eventually took over the family tire business (Stansfield Tire Center) at 402 Chelmsford St in Lowell, where it is still family owned and operated to this day. Jack "retired" in 1992 but continued to help with day-to-day operations until the age of 97.
Jack was an avid skier and was a longtime ski patroller at Nashoba Ski Area. He cherished his family ski vacations in northern New England, and the Alps. Jack skied well into his 80s. He was an active member of the community including being president of the AFS Student Exchange Program. His family hosted students from Sweden, Greece and France.
Jack was a devoted husband to the late Pricilla (Swanson) Stansfield (1926-2010) and is survived by his three sons John, Jr. and his wife Melinda, Scott and his son Stephan and his wife Hanh (Le), and Eric and his children John (Jack)II, Robert (Bobby), and Erin.
Our family would like to thank the incredible and compassionate support of the home hospice team from All Care during his last months. Especially the amazing lead nurse Kim Stenquist.
In lieu of flowers our family invites you to make a donation to All Care Hospice at 210 Market St., Lynn, MA 01901.
