John Straley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center - Manistee on Dec. 18, 2024.
John "Greg" Straley, age 72 of Manistee, Michigan, passed away on Saturday December 14, 2024.
Born August 20, 1952, in Flint, Michigan, Greg was the son of the late Amis and Betty (Dowland) Straley. He graduated from Carmen High School in Flint before attending Ferris State University for social work. Greg obtained his master's degree in social work from the University of Michigan.
Greg married Susan Jacobs on February 3, 1979, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Big Rapids, Michigan, and they shared 45 years together.
He was employed by the State of Michigan as a Social Worker and as a daycare licensing consultant. After retiring from the State of Michigan, Greg worked for Hospice of Michigan for many years.
Greg was an active member of the Manistee Elks #250.
He loved to spend time hunting, but genealogy was Greg's passion. Greg had a dry sense of humor that made his family and friends laugh and appreciate him even more.
Greg is survived by his wife, Susan Straley; son Jacob (Ashley) Straley; daughter Johanna Straley; and his special four-legged baby named Ted. He is also survived by his brothers Floyd (Sherry), Randy (Jani), William, Art, and Edward Straley; brothers-in-law Mike (Katie) Jacobs, Pat (Cindy) Jacobs, Mark (Colleen) Jacobs, Matt (Tracey) Jacobs, and Tim (Mary) Jacobs; sisters-in-law Joni (Pat Best) Lintemuth and Vicki Jacobs; numerous nieces and nephews; and other family and friends.
In addition to his parents Amis and Betty, Greg was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Bruce and Joyce Jacobs, sister Karen Avery, and brother-in-law Bruce Jacobs Jr.
During this time no service is planned.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Greg's name to the charity of your choice.
