John Strom Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fausett Family Funeral Homes-Manistique on Apr. 22, 2024.
John E. Strom, 69, long-time resident of Manistique, MI passed away on April 18, 2024, with both his beloved daughters by his side. He was born on April 9, 1955, to parents Einar and Pauline (Drefs) Strom. He attended Engadine High School and Bay de Noc Community College. He later spent his working years as an EMT, ambulance driver, firefighter, truck driver, drain commissioner, Christmas tree salesman, and a landscaper. He married the former "Marnie" Mary Faketty on September 14, 1978, in Manistique, MI, and they were married for 39 years until her passing in 2018.
John was a big man with an even bigger heart. Beneath his gruff exterior was a giant teddy bear, with an incredible sense of humor. He had a natural curiosity for the world around him and loved to learn. He loved helping wherever he felt needed or could make a change for the better. He was an excellent handyman and often you could find him helping those who were in need of his services, tending to their yards and fixing up their homes. John had an interest in many things; some of his hobbies included nature watching, fishing, coin collecting, cooking, playing cards, and target shooting. He wasn't afraid of a bit of friendly competition at the range. He was a social guy, loving family and friend gatherings, and playing cards at the Moose Lodge and various other places. John loved home cook meals and considered himself a "foodie." He liked collecting coins and was quite proud of his collection. However, he took great pride and delight in his twin grandsons Erik and Tyler who he adored.
John is survived by his daughters, Mary Strom of Manistique, MI and Katherine Strom of Gladstone, MI; grandsons, Erik and Tyler Johnson of Cooks; sister, Penny Hennes of Minnesota, and extended family.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marnie and his parents Pauline and Einar Strom.
A celebration of life and burial at Garfield Township Cemetery will be held at a later date, to be announced by the family.
Memorial donations in John's honor may be directed to the family for future designation.
