John Finly "Johnny" Summerlin

Funeral services for Mr. John Finly "Johnny" Summerlin, age 80, of Delta, will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Lineville Church of Christ, with Vernon Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Clay County Memory Gardens.
Mr. Summerlin passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at his home, following a courageous 13-year battle with ALS.
A native and lifelong resident of Delta, Mr. Summerlin dedicated his career to the road construction industry, retiring as a foreman from APAC, where he worked for many years as a skilled heavy equipment operator. Even in retirement, he continued doing bulldozer work, something he truly enjoyed.. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life-fishing, hosting memorable fish fries, tending his garden, and restoring tractors. Known for his infectious laughter and quick wit, Mr. Summerlin was always ready with a good joke. Above all else, he cherished his family. Time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the greatest joy of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy Summerlin of Delta; his sons, Jimmy Summerlin (Misty) of Rock Mills and Timmy Summerlin (Donna) of Lineville; six grandchildren, Kristen Jordan (Wesley), Justin Summerlin, Dale Summerlin, Megan Summerlin, Clay Sprayberry, and Shayy Brewer (Corey); and five great-grandchildren, Bryce, Brooks, and Brandt Jordan, Mason Summerlin, and Ryan Sprayberry. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Ann Miller (Vernon) of Manchester, Georgia; his brother, L.V. Summerlin (Sue) of Delta; and a large extended family whom he dearly loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie Vernon Summerlin and Bevis Moree Daughtery Summerlin.
Active pallbearers will be Justin Summerlin, Dale Summerlin, Bryce Jordan, Brooks Jordan, Brandt Jordan, Wesley Jordan, Clay Sprayberry, Chris Morrison, and Frankie Ward.
Honorary pallbearers will be the compassionate nurses and staff of Clay County Hospice and Clay County Home Health, along with his devoted caregivers, Shawnna "Sam" Ackles, Donna Summerlin, Dr. George C. "Buddy" Smith Jr. and all the caring staff at the Lineville Clinic.
Visitation for Mr. Summerlin will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville.
