John Anthony Supancic, 85, of San Diego, CA passed away after a short illness on April 25, 2024. Born on December 14, 1938, in Brooklyn, NY, John spent his youth in Floral Park, NY before attending the University of Delaware where he graduated in 1961 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. After college entered the US Naval Academy and graduated from Navy Officer Candidate Training School in Newport, RI as Lieutenant JG in November 1961. After serving in the Navy, he began his professional career with General Electric. In 1974, he worked for General Electric on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System. John held management roles at U.S. Samica Corp and Von Roll Isola in Rutland. In 1996, John relocated to San Diego, where his last career roles were for United Technologies. John was an adventurer. In 1974, he began mountain climbing. He conquered Mt Rainier, Mt. St. Helen, Mt. Whitney and other “14-ers” throughout the country and was avid downhill skier. John loved to travel and camp with family and friends. John is survived by his loving wife, Lynne P. Minor of San Diego, his first wife Lydia Cannon of Tinmouth, VT; his children from his first marriage, Cathy Catozzi of North Port, Fl, Eric Supancic of Canon City, CO and Kurt Supancic of Rutland, VT; beloved grandchildren Abigail Miglorie, Bethany Miglorie and Marlee Supancic, and his brother Donald Supancic of Burlington, VT. and his stepchildren from his second marriage to Sylvia Supancic, Andrea Winter of San Diego, Katie Winter of San Diego, Erin Winter Breve of San Diego and step grandchildren Julianna Winter of Austin, TX, Cassandra Winter of Austin TX, Lilah Dunn of San Diego, Connor Dunn of San Diego, Noemi Breve of San Diego, and his stepsons Jeffrey Dunn of Ft. Worth TX, and Brian Dunn of San Diego from his marriage to Lynne P. Minor. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Sylvia Supancic of San Diego his parents, John and Josephine Supancic of Wallingford, VT., and his stepson Matthew Dunn of Dallas, TX. Funeral services will be held on May 15,2024 at 10:00 am at the Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala followed by a Military Honors burial at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetary at 11:30 am.
