John C. Swayer, 73 of South New Berlin and a longtime resident of Edmeston, passed away on June 1, 2024 after a long illness.
He was born August 22, 1950 in New Berlin, the son of Cary Roscoe and Minnie (Harberts) Swayer.
John was a 1968 graduate of Edmeston Central School.
He married Laura Dorie on October 16, 1971.
In his early years, John worked at Chicago Pneumatic in Utica. Then worked for many years at Scintilla Magnito Bendix Aviation Corporation. He received Master Tool and Die maker designation. Lastly until his retirement in 2013, he was employed at NYCM in Edmeston as an electrician in the maintenance department.
John is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Laura, and children, Jennifer (Brian) Herring of Garrattsville, John W (Karen) Swayer of Morris; his grandchildren, Erin and Ethan Herring, and Hannah and Carter Swayer. John is also survived by his sister, Dina (Manfred) Schmidt of Bricktown, NJ, and a brother David Swayer of Edmeston; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents.
John enjoyed working with his hands and was always working on some kind of project. He will be fondly remembered by his avid love of dogs and how he particularly enjoyed spoiling his furry companions. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. His best times were spent with his family.
John never liked being the center of attention and per his wishes there will be no services.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to Helios Care, Oneonta NY 13820.
