John Tata Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Clawson on Jan. 15, 2025.
John Patrick Tata, long time resident of Madison Heights, passed away unexpectedly on January 12, 2025. John was born in Detroit, Michigan and is preceded in death by his Mother, Jeanne Marie Noel Tata, Father, Robert Tata, Mother-in Law, Cynthia Kresowski and Father-in-Law, Chester Kresowski. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ann Kresowski. John is also survived by six siblings Julie Young (Patrick), Nicholas Tata (Kuniko Sasahara), Mary Tata (Thomas Lynch), Paul Tata (Martha Bornak), Martin Tata (Kathleen Fitzgerald), and Peter Tata (Joanne). He is also survived by nieces and nephews: John Young (Jennifer), George Tata (Kasumi Sasahara), Marie Tata (Chang Yup Seo), Jim Tata (Aryanna) and Paul Tata and by great nieces and nephews: Emma, Allen, Karin, Ellen, Lola, Milo and Jin.
John was raised in Birmingham, Michigan attending St Regis Elementary, Brother Rice and Seaholm High Schools. John completed several Associate's Degrees including in Ceramic Technology and in Photographic Technology from Oakland Community College. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master's in Arts from Wayne State University. John was an accomplished artisan and a long-time student of the arts. He had a creative spirit and a discerning eye, both of which served him well in his long career as Ceramics Lab Technician for Oakland Community College, Royal Oak and in his own artistic pursuits as an accomplished potter.
John's wide interests led to many dear friendships over the years. He loved music of all kinds, had a special interest in guitars and remained a huge fan of both Iggy Pop and Neil Young until the very end. He appreciated and collected pottery from all over the world. John and Ann enjoyed world-wide travel including trips to Italy and many visits to family in England. John also loved visiting his family in Japan. John was an avid history buff and his father-in-law's experience as a morse code operator during the battle of Monte Cassino in Italy added to John's broad interest in world history. He loved sports especially the Red Wings and was so happy to see his Detroit Lion's recent achievements.
John was a devoted husband to his dear wife Ann and a loving son, brother, uncle and a true friend to many. His generous and kind heart will be deeply missed by all friends and family who cherished spending time with him.
Cremation services have been entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors. A celebration of John's life will be scheduled at a later date.

He was such a kind person and fun to talk to. I will always be grateful and I have many fond memories of him in the kiln room at OCC

What a sad day to see this lovely fellow leaving us all. I knew John from OCC where he patiently answered my thousands of questions about pottery and how to fill and run a kiln. When I was finally brave enough to buy a kiln he helped me and then to rewire it then helped me move another kiln when one became available. He was a kind and gentle soul and was generous with his teachings and time. His wife Ann was his greatest joy and my heart breaks for her. Though we lost touch for the last few years I remember him as one of an inspirations as to why I continue to do pottery today. Thank you John. Rest in peace.
