Mr. John Nelson Thomas, 89, of Skipwith, VA entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 29, 2025 at Emporia Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Mr. Thomas was born October 17, 1935 in Boydton, VA to the late Richard Thomas and Sarah Oliver. He was a graduate of West End High School in Skipwith, VA. During his career, Mr. Thomas worked as an owner operator in trucking with his late wife, Laverne Thomas. He later retired from the trucking industry to spend time with his family. He enjoyed fishing, reading, working crossword and sudoku puzzles along with spending time with his grandchildren. He loved watching Judge Judy and cutting grass on his riding lawnmower. He was knowledgeable in numerous subjects, but namely the trucking industry, philosophy and politics.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Albert Oliver, Cleveland Winkler, Willie Marion Oliver, Joe Oliver, daughter, Debbie Williams, and wife, Laverne Thomas.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his daughter, Sharon Carrington of Skipwith, VA; sons, Darryl Carrington of Conley, GA, Victor and Brian Thomas (Cynthia) of East Orange, NJ; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; brothers, Sterling Oliver of Texas and Jack House of South Carolina, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.
Memorial services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 20, 2025 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA with Rev. Marvin Harris officiating.
