John Harold Thomas, age 82, of Coon Rapids, IA, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Oak Hill Cemetery near Coon Rapids.
Memorial contributions may be made to Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids in John's name.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids.
John was born on March 15, 1943 in Carroll, IA, and he was the son of Verle Willard and Naomi LVene (Smith) Thomas. He grew up in Coon Rapids where he graduated from high school in 1961. He attended Drake University and lived in California before he was drafted into the United States Army serving two years stationed in Italy. John returned to Coon Rapids following his honorable discharge and worked several jobs over the years. He enjoyed gardening, caring for his yard, and researching family genealogy with his mother.
John is survived by his brother David Thomas (Geraldine) of Panora; a niece Jennifer Thomas and two nephews: Peter Thomas (Lori) and Christopher (Tami).
John was preceded in death by his parents Verle and LVene Thomas.
