I was down in FL when I heard of John's passing. I cried for him and his family, and for myself, as I knew I'd never have the pleasure to talk to him or see him again. So much fun to be around, especially on the golf course, back in the day. Never again will I hear his "Tommy Boy" greeting in a rather loud sarcastic voice. It's probably no coincidence that I pretty much gave up golfing about the same time John became ill. A friend for over 30 years who will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
Love you John!

To the Thompson family -
My family and I wish you sincere condolences on your loss of a good man and father. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting John, we were able to talk several times regarding our mutual bond... This thing called Multiple Myeloma.
He was my Multiple Myeloma hero. He survived and continued to fight until he could not.
My struggle is knowing and understanding what he's gone through and what he endured. Not asking for sympathy or pity but doing so as a quiet (yet pretty darn funny) man.
We all know he's in a much better place and he will be in each of you (his family) for the rest of your days.
I know I will remember him.
With a heavy heart
All the best to each of you

John and I worked together at Mercer. He was always laughing and joking with us but very serious when it came to client business. We went to see Buddy Guy play at the Legends Club once and went to many Cubs, Bulls and Blackhawks games together. I always looked forward to John bringing me deer sticks after one of his hunting trips. He had a big heart and a big laugh and brought energy to those around him. May God Bless you John and your family.
