John L. Thompson, 77, husband of Sandra Joyce Barnett Thompson, passed away into the arms of Jesus, Saturday, July 30, 2022, at The Willows at Citation. He was born December 19, 1944, in Louisville to the late Charles R. and Helen Cash Thompson. John was a Vietnam Veteran of the US Navy and was Service Supervisor for GTE, and operations manager for Electronic Engineering. He was a member of Jessamine Christian Church and the Ambassadors Sunday School Class and was also a Kentucky Colonel. Along with his wife, Sandra he is survived by his daughters, Lynn Thompson (Jimi) Cottrell of Sharonville, OH and Dawn Thompson (Travis) Bonnett of Marblehead, OH; grandson, Joshua Ritchie of North Carolina; step-children, Michele (Chad Mortenson) Johnson and Richard (Cindy) Hawkins of Cullman, AL; step-grandchildren, Lauren (Steven) Brooks, Jordan (Justin) Berndt, and Drake Hawkins; step-great grandchildren, Brayden, Bradlee, Cooper, Leland Moss, and Sutton; and his sister, Theresa Ann Noe. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Jenkins and brothers, Charles Thompson, Jr and Henry Thompson. Services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, August 4, 2022 at Kerr Brothers-Harrodsburg Road with burial following in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 AM Thursday at the funeral home. Contributions are suggested to Bluegrass Hospice Care, 1733 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, KY 40504
