Mary Herms

1935 - 2026

Mary Geiser Herms, 90, of Lexington, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2026 at Mayfair Village. Born October 6, 1935 in Hamilton, OH to the late Leo and Julia Kettman Geiser. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Ralph Albert Herms, MD, and brother Leo Geiser. She graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.Sc. degree in Home Economics and became a hospital dietician. In 1967, she and her husband moved to Portsmouth, Ohio where she served as President of the Mercy Hospital Guild and Scioto County Medical Auxiliary, Chair of the Red Cross Blood Center, and Board of Directors of the YMCA, the Girl Scouts of America, and The Red Cross. She also served as City Council Member.

After moving to Lexington, KY in 1981, she served as President of the Fayette County Medical Alliance, and Board of Directors for Southern Medical Society Auxiliary, Baby Health Services, Children's Charity of the Bluegrass, and was a founding board member of the Ronald McDonald House. She and her husband were members of Health Volunteers Overseas and volunteered at St. Jude Hospital in St. Lucia for many years. She is survived by her devoted children Daniel A. Herms (Cathy), Lisa Herms Ripley, Julie Herms Beattie (Jeff), Thomas A. Herms, her granddaughters Mary Margaret Beattie and Elizabeth Rose Beattie, and a sister Martha Tatham. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Blue Grass Care Navigators (Hospice) would be greatly appreciated. The Herms family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the Mayfair Village Community for their exceptional love, support and caring dignity through Mary's final journey, she was so blessed.
