Mary Thompson Obituary

Mary Burdette Thompson, 72, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Mary was born on July 1, 1953, in Lebanon, Kentucky, to Edmund and Patsy Burdette. She was raised in Lebanon, where she formed the deep roots of faith, family, and community that would guide her throughout her life.

Mary was a devout Christian whose faith was central to her life. As a member and deacon of Calvary Baptist she was heavily devoted to mission work, always eager to serve others. She enjoyed live music and loved to travel. She leaves behind a legacy of love and unwavering devotion to her family and her community.

Her greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her two children, Slade and Grace Thompson; her mother, Patsy Burdette; and her five siblings, Anne Swencki (Jim), Jane Flynn (Tim), Lewis Burdette (Debbie), Pat Burdette (Ilona) and Martha Spalding (Steve) as well as a long list of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her grand-dog, Elton, who brought her much happiness.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mitchell Thompson, and her father, Edmund Burdette.

Visitation will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Lexington at 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 19, 2026.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mission Health Lexington (https://missionhealthlex.org) in Mary's honor.

Surprised and saddened by news of Mary's sudden passing. I have known her and her deceased husband Mitchell for many years through Calvary Baptist Church, Lexington where we attended the same Sunday School class for many years. She was also a fellow Deacon there. I admired her for the many years of service she rendered through the Church. Her dedication to service seemed boundless. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Sincere condolences to the family during this time of grief. Hopefully knowledge of our admiration for her will be of some consolation to them.
