John Henry Thompson was born on June 16, 1944, to the late John Thompson and Tiney B. Thompson in Columbia, South Carolina. He departed this life on Sunday, May 14, 2023 in Columbia, South Carolina.
John was educated in the public schools of Richland County and was a proud graduate of C. A. Johnson High School. After graduating, John enlisted in the United States Navy and served this country becoming a Vietnam Veteran.
John worked as a brick mason and cement finisher for several years. He enjoyed watching Western movies and shows and all sports on television. He was an avid and devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. He will be remembered for the love he had for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Etta "Sister" Hoefer Wright; daughter, Lauretta Wright; and brothers, John Thompson, Jr., Benjamin Wannamaker, Marion Thompson, and Jimmy Thompson.
John is survived by his son, Darren (Sherry) Clark, Sr.; grandchildren, Lisa Wright, Darren Clark, Jr., and Keirstyn Clark; brothers, Joe Wannamaker, Nathaniel (Rosland) Thompson, and Alonzo Thompson; sister, Clara (TW) Metze; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
