John Thornton

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of my beloved husband John Thornton. He left us on February 17, 2025 after a long courageous battle with lung cancer and associated complications. Born in West Covina, CA in 1959, John traveled the world during his 20 years of service with the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Navy in 2001 and became very involved in the Parrot Head Nation. He continued his travels to Mississippi, Alabama, Illinois, California, and finally settled at Latitude Margaritaville in Daytona Beach, FL in 2020. John was a very fun-loving and charismatic man who easily made friends everywhere he traveled.
John lived a vibrant life rich with laughter, compassion, and a deep love for his family, friends, and the community. He was very proud of his service to our Nation as a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy and loved everything about being a Parrot Head. He especially enjoyed the Parrot Head lifestyle including the music, amazing friendships, social events, and partying with a purpose to give back to others.
In keeping with his larger-than-life generous spirit, John was an organ donor. His final act of kindness was to give the gift of sight through a cornea donation. John would be happy to know that someone who couldn't see before, may have the chance to see the beauty of the world through his generous donation.
John is lovingly survived by his wife Laura Thornton and her two children Darrell Coburn and Christian Coburn. John will be forever loved and missed by his family and cherished friends.
A special thank you goes out to all the family and friends who stood by our side and provided support throughout this journey.
A Celebration of Life event will be scheduled at a later date.
