To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die –
Thomas Campbell
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our son, John Tobias, Jr. who was taken from us on July 7, 2025, at the age of 30. Nothing seems adequate to describe the devastating void left behind by the loss of our son, brother, and friend. Junior was our constant, our protector, our unconditional love. He spent his life serving others with a smile and a twinkle in his eye. He was a giver - a giver of friendship, of loyalty, and of his time.
Upon graduating from Montwood High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, NC; he worked in Aviation Logistics. After his service, he found his footing in diesel mechanics. He graduated from Western Tech University in June of 2021. He moved to San Antonio, TX where he worked with his younger brother at Bruckner's Truck and Equipment. He had just returned to his home in El Paso, TX to pursue a degree in cyber security.
There is so much that we will miss about our wonderful son. His first love was his family, whom he adored and cherished like no other. Whatever his parents or siblings needed, it was guaranteed that Junior would be there. His steadfast love was unwavering and fierce. When he laughed, his head would fall back and the roar of his precious laughter would fill the room. He always greeted us with a bear hug. His arms would wrap around us tight and hold us close until we were ready to let go. He was witty, strong-willed, and bigger than life.
His second love was his beloved Marine Corps where he found brothers that had an unspoken and unbreakable bond. There was no such thing as a favor amongst Marines, no score kept – only faithfulness to show up for each other in time of need. We will forever be grateful to his brothers for the love they showed our beautiful son. That brotherhood overflowed into the friendships he formed outside of the Marines. Junior was beloved by so many friends. Our hearts are full meeting those that admired and truly treasured him. Thank you for sharing your stories with us.
Junior loved mechanics and cars, riding his motorcycle any time of day, but watching the sunrise early in the morning was healing and something he looked forward to on the weekends. He had friends from all walks of life, all ages, all backgrounds. He was selfless, a great mentor, and the best brother and son we could ever have hoped for.
Junior is survived by his mom Sandra Tobias, stepdad John, younger brothers: Jay and Sean, and sister Caroline. He is also survived by his dad Jose Hernandez, sister Jasmine, and stepmom Elsie. He is also survived by his wife, Mariah Tobias.
Although I will pace myself, Son, someday I will see you again. Until then, my Superman, I love you to the moon and back, and around the world a million times!
Please join us as we celebrate his life! We ask family and friends not to wear black.
