In loving Memory of Donald Tobias Jr.

December 7, 1955 – September 13, 2025

Don Tobias, a fiercely loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and truly one-of-a-kind soul, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, surrounded by love. His journey through life was one marked by creativity and passion. He lived fully, loved deeply, and left a mark that will never fade.

Don was born in Walsenburg, Colorado, on December 7, 1955, son of Don Tobias Sr. and the late Ruby (Cameron) Tobias. He was a 1974 graduate of Centennial High School in Pueblo, CO. Don was united in marriage October 20, 2012, to Jennifer (Pope) Horstmann-Tobias in Jefferson City, MO. Dons' path led him through Owensville and Japan MO; Pueblo, Creed, and Cripple Creek, Colorado; to Poway, California; and eventually retiring to Jefferson City, MO. Along the way he impacted countless lives with his humor, honesty, and unmistakable spirit. Don was unapologetically himself- a rare and beautiful trait -- and he invited others to do the same simply by being in his presence.

Don was a man of many talents. He found joy in woodworking, theater, reading and music. He was always crafting or discovering something with his hands or his heart. He held a deep love for music, from native and local rhythms to spiritual chants, and good old fashioned rock. More than just a listener, Don had the gift of singing, his voice carried warmth, soul, and a unique spark that reflected who he was. Sharing that gift was one of his joys.

Professionally, Don served as a Radiology Technologist for 36 years at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, CA. He cared for others with dedication and compassion, his kind and capable spirit touched the lives of many patients and colleagues over the years. Don faithfully served his country in the United States Navy and later continued his service in the National Guard. His unwavering dedication to duty and patriotism will always be remembered.

Family was the center of Don's world. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer; his daughters Amber (Marcel) and Jennifer; son Nick; stepdaughters Kelly (Kai) and Emmie (Mikey); stepsons Wyatt (Amanda) and Gabe (Amanda); his father, Don Sr.; his brothers Ed, Jim (Rhea), and Tim; and his sisters Kelly (Bill) and Jane (Kevin). He was a proud Poppy and Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his second wife, Marcia, their precious daughter Aimee; his mother Ruby; as well as his brother Chuck; and other loved ones who now welcome him home with open arms.

To know Don was to love him-or at the very least, to never forget him. He lived life on his own terms, taught by example how to be true to oneself. His laughter, wisdom, and the twinkle in his eye will be missed more than words can say.

A celebration of Don's life will be held October 4, 2025, at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Jefferson City, MO, at 4 p.m. for family and friends to gather, and honor a life so well lived and a man so deeply loved.

An additional service will be held in Grants, New Mexico, on November 22, 2025.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the Central Missouri Honor Flight Program.

Arrangements are pending under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 W. Main St. Jefferson City, MO 65109 (573) 636-3838. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.millardfamilychapels.com.
