John Vance, of Claypool, passed away peacefully at his residence on January 17, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on January 10, 1935, in Claypool, he was the son of Maurise and Cleo Vance (Sisk).
John graduated from Warsaw High School in 1953 and went on to serve his country honorably in the Korean War in the United States Army, receiving his discharge in 1956. After his time in the military, he became a machinist, retiring from International Harvester. Alongside his career, John was a dedicated farmer for most of his life.
On April 15, 1957, he married Marjorie Bumbaugh. Together, they raised a loving family, which includes their six children Mark, Lynne, Leigh, Jon, Debbie, and Shawn.
John was an active member of the VFW in Wabash and the American Legion Post 286 in North Manchester. In his free time, John enjoyed woodworking and crafting rock lamps. He will be remembered for always having a bag of tricks to share with friends and family.
Along with his wife and children, John is survived by his 10 grandchildren including Eric Mackey and Luke Vance, 13 great-grandchildren, and his sister Mary Ann Laird. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Everett Vance.
