John Wiley Varner, age 99, of Amity, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. He always said, "I want to go to Heaven when I die." He finally made it!
He was born on October 24, 1924, in Marvel, AR the son of Martin Van Buren Varner and Mattie Snyder Varner. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Annie Louise Henson Varner.
John married the love of his life, Annie, on September 24, 1945. Together they built a beautiful life to cherish. He was a member of Assembly of God Church. He had a very admirable work ethic, working as a welder, boilermaker, farmer, logger, and business owner. He also served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Bombardier. John was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, J.W. and Trudy Varner and Ron and Jan Varner; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth Ann and Darrell Wight and Shirley and Matt Burrow, Sr.; his nine grandchildren, Tanya Hobgood, Talia Wight-Maier, Vicki (Varner) Scott, Linsi Blakley (Morgan), Kelli Varner, John William Varner, Amy (Varner) Hughes, Matt Varner, Jennifer Lynn (Varner) Gardner; his twenty-five great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many loving extended family members, and a host of wonderful friends.
Pallbearers will be Joey Varner, Jim Garrett, T.J. Jenkins, Carter Scott, Eric Walker, and Winston Beavert Jr.
