John Michael Velten

John Michael Velten, known affectionately to friends and family as Mike, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, at the age of 84, surrounded by his loving family in his hometown of Baltimore, MD. Mike was born on October 12, 1940, to Catherine and Ernest Velten.

A proud graduate of Calvert Hall College High School, Class of 1959, Mike carried the values of his education through every facet of his life. He went on to have a notable career at Baltimore Gas and Electric, which later became Constellation Energy Group, where he was respected for his dedication and hard work.

Mike's life was a tapestry of love woven with the threads of family and friendship. He is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Carol Velten, with whom he shared a passion for bowling and once bowled an impressive 213 game in Duckpins. He is also survived by two daughters, Michelle Stein (married to James) and Diane Velten. Mike's legacy also lives on through his adoring three grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life.

He is also survived by his sisters, Kathleen Taylor and Mary Frances Chrisley, who will cherish the memories of their brother's unwavering love and thoughtful nature. Mike also had a brother, Ernest Velten, who passed away several years ago.

A lifelong Baltimore resident, Mike's love for his city was paralleled by his passion for its sports teams. He was an ardent supporter of the Ravens and Orioles.

Mike's life was a journey of purpose and service, marked by his ability to touch the lives of others. His patient nature made him a cherished companion, and his kindness left a lasting impression on friends and family. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.
