John D. Vetrano went home to be with the Lord on September 8, 2023. He died peacefully in his home in Wilton, CT from natural causes.
John was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Ben Vetrano and Margaret (DeGaetano) Vetrano. He was predeceased by his brother, Peter Vetrano. He is survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins, who will infinitely remember him for his unparalleled and boundless generosity, kindness, love, and selfless concern for others.
John was a graduate of St. Bonaventure University. He was the first Bona student to take on the cheerleading role of Brown Indian in 1961, representing St. Bonaventure University athletics. There he made life-long friends, who both mourn and celebrate his death with us today. His career, in Municipal Bonds, was based primarily on Wall Street in Manhattan and a few years in California until his retirement, when he relocated to Wilton, CT. There, too, he made wonderful friends. He was endeared by all, whether friends, co-workers, or simply acquaintances that he met through life's journey.
John was very passionate about the entertainment industry. He was an avid movie goer and historian, often reveling in several movies a day. He was a Broadway and Musical Theater enthusiast and he passed on this passion to all his nieces and nephews.
However, John's greatest legacy is the great love that he leaves behind, shared by his family and friends. To know him was to love him and this sentiment was felt by all. He was always there when needed---no task was too big or too small.
John, our hearts are heavy and our tears will flow---but your kindness, devotion and love will be remembered forever. And God will surely say, "In you, I am well pleased." When the Lord called him home, a bright light dimmed in this world. Our loss was heaven's gain!
As per John's request, interment will be private. There will be no viewing hours.

First met a Bonas 1959

I met John at work in 1981 when I worked in a different part of the Muni dept but soon JDV hired me for underwriting with him. He was quite a character (but we all were!) - fun to work with yet serious when the job called. I learned the biz from him- thank you John!

He left Shearson at a certain point and I stayed on in a different muni area. When it was time for me to leave, John got me an interview at the place he worked and we were reunited in the office again! We worked at the same place till he retired. Even though he moved to Conn he never ever missed my birthday nor the annual reminder to me that it was Sailors week in NYC.

I will miss you JDV - you were a great mentor, great boss and always a great friend.
