John Edward Waitt

HUBERT, NC - John Edward Waitt, 60, of Hubert, passed away February 8, 2026 at ECU Health in Greenville, NC after a long illness.

John was born on November 21, 1965 to the late William E. Waitt, Jr. and Barbara (Brown) Waitt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Martha Waitt, daughter, Alexis Waitt and brother, William "Bill" Waitt.

John grew up in Ipswich and graduated from the Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School. He settled in Gloucester where he spent most of his adult life. He later moved to Amesbury and finally to Hubert, North Carolina. John worked for Nutramax in Gloucester for about 14 years and then for Bodycote in Ipswich, the world's largest service provider of heat treatment and specialist metallurgical technologies where he retired as a supervisor in 2021.

John had a lifelong love for the water. As a child, he was able to find a new swimming hole, lake, stream or coastline almost instinctually. He loved the beach and adored rivers and waterfalls. Following his marriage to Georgia, their honeymoon consisted of 86 miles of hiking trails, visiting 17 various waterfalls in one trek. They were able to visit the Canadian side of Niagara Falls in 2018.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia Waitt; children, Jay and Jessica Miranda, Kayla Waitt and Greg Goodhue, Gina Miranda and Michael Sampson, Nicole Waitt and Spencer Holt, Abigail Waitt and Liam Wood, Sam Hebb, and Madison Waitt and Austin Turley; siblings, Nancy and Jeff Rosemore, Susan Neal, Marian and Steve Tzartaczuk, Douglas and Christine Waitt, and Sarah and Brandon Berry; grandchildren, Christian, Kyle and Savannah Page, Justin Miranda, Sydnie, Layla and Mackenzie Hicks, Ryder Waitt, Rhett and Rylie Goodhue, Julian Miranda, Daemien and Niklaus Sampson, Willow and Lily Holt, Liam Jr and Aspen Wood, Oliver Potter, and a large extended family.

A celebration of life for John will be at the Ipswich Masonic Lodge, 70 Topsfield Rd, Ipswich, MA on Saturday, March 14 from 12PM to 4PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
