John N. Walentowski
John, known affectionately to most as "Uncle" John, passed away January 2, 2025. He was born in Milwaukee on Christmas day in 1948 and lived in the city his entire life.
John was the beloved son of the late Norman and Sophie Walentowski (nee Smolinski). He was preceded in death by his devoted sister Carol and her husband John Boglitsch. He will be greatly missed by his nieces Amy (Roman) Klink and Julie Boglitsch, along with many relatives and a multitude of friends whose lives he touched.
John proudly served in the United States Army. He is a Vietnam War veteran who received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star with Valor and other commendations during his military service. After returning home, he continued his life of service as a firefighter for the Milwaukee Fire Department for 25 years.
John loved spending time up north at his cabin. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, ATV adventures and trips to the casino. He loved a good fish fry and trying different foods, especially at local festivals. If he was on his motorcycle - even better! John could often be found driving around his beloved city checking on or dropping in on his family and friends.
Over the years John has demonstrated his generosity through time and resources to a variety of causes. He often donated to church programs,
The Salvation Army and Milwaukee Rescue Mission. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
your favorite charity or one of John's in his honor.
Heartfelt gratitude to the VA Hospital staff, especially the ICU, 9C and Physical Therapy departments. They healed, advocated, encouraged and supported him. They helped him recover his strength and mobility allowing him to return home which was most important to John. We would also like to thank Debbie of Home Health Care, who provided support at home helping John maintain his independence.
A celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday February 1, 2025, at OUR LADY OF DIVINE PROVIDENCE - ST. CASIMIR CHURCH 2600 N. Bremen Street, Milwaukee. Visitation will take place from 9 AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery with Military Honors.
