John Ward Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home on Jan. 8, 2026.
John W. Ward, Jr. 90, longtime resident of Rockville and beloved husband of 70 years to Doreen (Waltz) Ward, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 4, 2026. He was born on May 26, 1935, in Hartford, one of three children to the late John W. Ward, Sr. and Gladys Whaples.
Following his schooling, John proudly served his country with the United States Air Force from 1954 – 1958. Upon returning home, he spent over 30 years with CL&P before his retirement. John was a member of the Rockville United Methodist Church for over 67 years, as well as a longtime member of The Falcon Club of America. In his spare time, you could find John spending time with his family, being outdoors, or camping down at Juno Ocean Walk in Florida which he did for over 20 years. Although our time with John has come to an end, his wisdom, assistance to others, and personality will be cherished for years to come by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Doreen, John is survived by his son, John W. Ward, III and his wife Lori and their combined family of five children and eight grandchildren; his son-in-law, Thomas M. Wilson and his three children and one grandson; his brother, George Ward and his wife Sharon; his sister, Dorothy Avery; as well as his good friends, the Cowperthwaite's and the Delaney's. To all his grandchildren, he was affectionally known as "Buddy". John was predeceased by his parents and his daughter, Mariann Wilson.
John's family would like to offer a special word of thanks for the many doctors, nurses and caregivers at Visiting Angels of Tolland and Complete Care at Fox Hill for their continued support over the last several weeks.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, beginning at 11 a.m. in Grove Hill Cemetery, Hale St., Rockville.
