Mr. John Watson, 81, passed away on February 21, 2025, in West Point. John was born on September 5, 1943, in Clay County, to the late Thomas Jefferson and Louise Watson. He served in the United States Army. He was a working man, having worked for the City of West Point Public Works for 20 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a love for animals, especially his cats. John was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He married Dianne Henry Watson on July 6, 1968, in Clay County and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2022. He was of the Christian faith.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Stafford and Anita Howe and two brothers, Buddy and Finley Watson.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 2, 2025, from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 P.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Towery officiating. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Survivors include his five daughters, Lania Thurlow (David) of Pace, Florida, Lynn Watson of Biloxi, Tina Bauzil of Clinton, Tasha Watson (Randy) of West Point, and Angie Watson (Sandy) of Russellville, Alabama: nine grandchildren, Brooke Watson of Starkville, Megan McCall of Biloxi, Lili, Elizabeth, and Joaquin Bauzil of Clinton, Warren Watson (Lexie) of Leighton, Alabama, Darren Pointer of Jackson, Jacob Pointer of Russellville, Alabama, and Chloe DeLoit of Russellville, Alabama: three great-grandchildren, Kashton, Wraylen, and Kolten Watson of Leighton, Alabama: six sisters, Thomasine Bateman of West Point, Maudie Walls (Doug) of West Point, Nancy Hardin (Larry) of Eupora, Dorothy Staten (Andy) of West Point, Ann Palmer (Robert) of Maben, and Marie Lepicier (Richard) of West Point.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Portera, Randy Langley, Shawn Lee, Sandy DeLoit, and David Thurlow.
Memorials may be made to West Point Clay County Animal Shelter, 5122 Old Tibbee Rd, West Point, Mississippi 39773.
