John Edward Webb, Jr., 70, of
Johns Creek, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, the 5th of July 2023.
He was born in
Florence, South Carolina, and led a very active and diverse life. He lived in many places around the world including Mexico City, Mexico; Sao Paolo, Brazil; Lausanne, Switzerland;
Marblehead, Massachusetts;
Holderness, New Hampshire;
St. Louis, Missouri; Atlanta Georgia; Houston Texas; and most recently
Johns Creek, Georgia.
Immediately upon returning from 2 years with the family in Lausanne, at the age of 14 he left home to attend boarding school at The Holderness School in Holderness New Hampshire where he was a four sport letterman in soccer, ice hockey, snow skiing, and lacrosse. In the summer you could find John on the Atlantic Ocean in the family's 13 foot Boston Whaler running between Marblehead, Salem, Beverly, and
Manchester, Massachusetts. After Holderness he attended Rollins, Nichols and St Louis University where he graduated with a degree in Business.
His hobbies were varied. He had a habit of adding news ones on a regular basis. He was an avid snow skier and a very good skier having learned on the slopes of Swiss Alps. He became an even better skier as a member of the Holderness ski team. This love of the mountains and skiing stuck with him into adulthood. In Atlanta he was an active member of the Atlanta Ski Club where he met his wife.
He was not one to focus on a single sporting activity. He loved windsurfing, mountain biking, snorkeling, and most recently paddleboarding.
John and Steph both loved to travel especially to the Caribbean exploring different islands including the US Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Grand Cayman, Aruba, and Turks and Caicos. That is where he picked up his love of snorkeling. His favorite place in Florida was St Augustine - He had a real love for the beach and the water and hoped to retire to the beach there where he could keep his toes in the sand and in the water. He also loved to dance! He could cut loose, unexpectedly bringing his partner, Steph, with him. After retiring from IHG he took cooking lessons with his favorite cooking partner, Steph and quickly became a master of the craft. His greatest passion though, other than his family, was photography. He loved taking photos everywhere he traveled, but he especially excelled in photographing landscapes and birds. He spent many an evening editing each photo after which he would print the photos in different mediums. He was always behind the camera and rarely in front.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Stephanie Webb, and younger brothers, Richard (Rick) Webb and his wife Mary and daughter Leah and Thomas (Tim) Webb his wife Cindy and daughters Emily and Ali. He was preceded in death by his parents Rebecca Smith Webb and John Edward Webb.
