John Wehr Obituary

John C. Wehr, 72, passed away at his Indianapolis home on Friday, February 14, 2025. Born on April 22, 1952, to the late Rolland Wehr and his cherished mother, Evelyn Wehr, who survives him in Marion, John lived a life filled with passions and pursuits that will forever inspire those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A proud graduate of Mississinewa High School, John went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in history from Marion College, now Indiana Wesleyan University, and later obtained a Master's Degree in history from Purdue University, both degrees he earned with honors. He was a lifelong member of the Episcopalian Church, where his faith and dedication shone brightly through his involvement in many church activities, including teaching Sunday School alongside his partner Neil for many years.

John's professional path led him to a successful career as an underwriter, but his true joys came from a diverse array of interests. He was an avid vintage car enthusiast, a history buff with a passion for learning, and a green-thumbed gardener who found peace in nurturing the land. His love of music found expression in both the clarinet and piano, while his adventurous spirit led him to explore 11 countries during his college years. He was also a fan of NASCAR racing and had a love for his pets.

Devoted to his family and surrounded by the love of animals, John's home was a sanctuary filled with warmth and laughter. His kind heart and gentle spirit touched the lives of many, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

John is survived by his mother, Evelyn; sister, Judy (Mark) Wehr-Heaney, Oklahoma City, OK; nieces, Megan Posey, Atlanta, GA, Amanda (Justin) Cajindos and Rebecca Heaney, both of Oklahoma City, OK; nephew, Andrew (Jordan) Heaney, Edmond, OK; great nieces and nephews, Miles Clenney, Tessa Cajindos, Evan and Fabian Harjo, and Olivia and Eleanor Heaney; and several extended family from the Dolby and Wehr sides, as well as numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rolland; partner, Neil Watson; and brother, Jerry L. Wehr.

Arrangements for John have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana, where private services will be held. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please plant a tree in John's memory.
