Jack Weidman, 90, passed away surrounded by loved ones at Buehler Home in
Peoria, IL on Monday, October 23, 2023.
John "Jack" Weidman was born August 10, 1933 in
Freeport, IL, the elder son of Francis and Marjorie (Phillips) Weidman. Jack married Marilynn Foster on June 23, 1956 In
LaGrange, IL; they shared 67 years together, and were parents of two sons, David and Matthew. Surviving are his wife, his son David and daughter-in-law KyleAnn, son Matthew, eight granddaughters, Kara Alvarez (Daniel), Katrina Bowman (Brandon), Karissa Weidman (Jesse Misbin), Samantha Weidman (William Best), Michaela Weidman, Ella Weidman, Lorelei Weidman, and Tessa Weidman, five great grandchildren, and sister-in-law Phyllis Weidman. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Jim.
Jack grew up in the small town of Mt. Carroll, IL., acquiring his love of nature while exploring the hills and streams of rural northwest Illinois. After graduating from Mt. Carroll High School, he studied business at Knox College in
Galesburg, IL, where he and Marilynn met. He was also a member of the ROTC. Following his graduation from Knox, he obtained his MBA at Indiana University in
Bloomington, Indiana. Shortly after receiving that degree, he and Marilynn were married. They then moved to Indianapolis where he served in the Army, finally being discharged from the Army Reserves in 1963 as a First Lieutenant. When he completed his active-duty assignment, they moved to
Peoria, IL where Jack began a 38-year career at Commercial National Bank, retiring in 1995 as Vice President of Commercial Lending. He also served on various volunteer organizations such as the Board of Goodwill Industries. He was raised by his parents in the Methodist Church and was a member of the University United Methodist Church in Peoria, where he was a long-time choir member.
He was a caring and loving person, showing that in many ways, from his long, loving marriage, to how he raised his sons and exemplified good character to them and supported their interests which were often quite different from his own, to how he treated others with respect, interest, and caring, continuing even as his health failed. Jack loved the outdoors, enjoying activities ranging from fishing, canoeing, and camping, to becoming an award-winning wildlife photographer during his retirement.
