Our amazing Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, John Randall Wells, passed away on January 24, 2026, at the wonderful age of 95. He was, and we are sure he continues to be, a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, dedicated to caring for, supporting, and loving his family. We are sure he is thrilled to be reunited with his wife, Darleen, who passed away in October of 2022. Dad leaves a legacy of generosity, humor, service, and faith. We are blessed to call him Dad and Gramps.
John was born June 10, 1930, in
Weehawken, New Jersey. John enjoyed a long and fulfilling life. He dedicated 16 years to his education, graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) with a degree in Chemical Engineering.
John served his country proudly during the Korean War (1953-1955) as a Private First Class (PFC) in the US Army. Stationed primarily at Dugway Proving Ground, Utah, where he met the love of his life, Darleen Hooton. Their wartime connection blossomed into love, and they were married on August 27, 1955, in Lyman, Wyoming.
John found faith in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was sealed to Darleen in the Logan Temple on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1962. John served in many positions in the church, including Bishop of the Brigham City 17th ward and on the Stake High Council.
John worked at Thiokol Chemical Corporation for over 30 years and, upon retiring, held the title of "Director of Space Operations". He was instrumental in the development of solid rocket motors for all types of missiles, including the Space Shuttle.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Frank U. and Mildred Fetz Wells, his wife, Darleen, and his beautiful granddaughter, Sadie Wells.
He is survived by his daughter, Marilynn Stewart (Steven), sons, Scott E. Wells (Kanani), Brett R. Wells (Lisa), and Lee M. Wells (Pam), 17 grandchildren and spouses, and 29 great-grandchildren.
John's family is grateful for the care given by Dr. John Markeson and the staff at Sunridge Assisted Living in Layton.
John's life was a testament to dedication, love of family and country, and a commitment to his faith. He is and will continue to be dearly missed.
