John R. Wentz

John R. Wentz, 78, of Millerstown (Donnally Mills), passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at his residence. Born on May 8, 1947, in Newport, Perry County, he is the son of the late Guy and Martha (Hockenberry) Wentz. On February 21, 1970, he married his surviving wife, Gloria (Hood) Wentz whom he was blessed to share over 55 years of marriage before his passing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kristie (Wentz) Overly and her husband John of East Earl and Susan (Wentz) Williamson and her husband Robert of Newport; one grandson, Wesley Williamson; two step grandsons, Matthew Overly and Kyle Overly; and two sisters, Jane Sheaffer and her husband Boyd of Millerstown and Brenda Foose and her husband David of Newport, he is also survived by his sister-in-law, Donna Wentz of Millerstown, and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Wentz. Mr. Wentz was a 1966 graduate of Greenwood High School in Millerstown and was employed and retired as a self-employed mechanic and service station owner of Wentz ARCO Gas Station in Newport. John had attended Donnally Mills United Methodist Church and was a member of the Newport-Tennis Lodge #381 F & AM in Newport and was also a member of the Ickesburg Sportsmans Club. He was a lifetime hunter and fisherman who enjoyed watching Sprint Car races at Port Royal Speedway and loved the time spent with his grandson. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Donnally Mills United Methodist Church, 4078 Raccoon Valley Road, Millerstown with the Rev. Fred Rudy officiating. Interment will follow in Union Memorial Gardens in Mifflintown. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the Masonic Services at 10:45 AM on Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Wentz's memory can be made to the Millerstown Fire Department and EMS, 7 N. Market St., Millerstown, PA 17062.
