John W. Longfellow, 91, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at his home.
He was born on October 9, 1929, in Fort Jefferson, Ohio, to the late Leonard and Treva (Locke) Longfellow.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane (Byrum) Longfellow; and his siblings, Floyd Longfellow, Delaphine Haines, and Ruth Shuttleworth.
John served his country honorably in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. After his service to his country, John began his career at Corning Glass in Greenville, until his retirement in 1986 after 30 years. He was a member of the Greenville Eagles. In his free time, John enjoyed being outdoors fishing and tending to his garden. It was not uncommon to find John with his dancing shoes on, dancing the night away with Jane and later with Barb.
John is survived by his son, Todd (Cathy) Longfellow of Union City, Indiana; his grandchildren, Matthew Longfellow, Sr., of New Bremen, Ohio, and Laura (Chris) Davis of Goose Creek, South Carolina; his great grandchildren, Lily and Matthew, Jr.; his dear friend, Barb Garke of Versailles, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service was held at on Monday, August 16, 2021, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Fort Jefferson.
