John Ross Wilson, 84, husband of Nancy Anne Milhous Wilson, of West Union, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Cottingham Hospice House.
John grew up in Indianapolis, son of the late Gilbert and Evelyn Wilson. He has a brother Bob and a sister Suzanne Wilson, both of Indianapolis, niece Meghan Wilson and nephew Ryan Wilson. He has four great nieces and nephews Tristin LaValley, Hadley, Cora and Luke Wilson and a brother-in-law Paul Milhous and four sisters-in-law Beth Wilson, Carol, Gail and Mary Ann Milhous.
John put himself through college, playing the drums. He served in the National Guard. He married Nancy Milhous after coming home from basic training in the National Guard. Nancy told him he had better get a job before her three brothers came home for the wedding. They were married on December 27, 1963. He went to work for KB Parrish CPA firm on January 2, 1964, at the end of his first tax season, he got a bonus and was so excited. He called his mother-in-law before Nancy. He soon became a partner and retired 42 years later from KB Parrish. John was active in Jaycee's in Plainfield, Indiana where they lived. They moved to Lamb Lake Indiana in 1974 and of course became the treasure for the HOA and the Bass Club. After retiring, it was hard to leave the lake and his Indiana friends. They moved to Lake Keowee in South Carolina and made lots of new lasting friends. Once again, he served as treasurer of every organization that he was a member of. John knew he had a blessed life and thank God for his friends, family and life.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Seneca Presbyterian Church. A celebration of life will immediately follow the service at the Stone Ledge Clubhouse, Sunset Point Dr, West Union, SC 29696.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Seneca Presbyterian Church, https://www.eservicepayments.com, 115 W. South 1st Street, Seneca, SC 29678 or to Prisma Health Hospice of the Foothills, Cottingham Hospice House, Attn: Foundation Office, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, SC 29672.

I met John when I worked as a staff accountant at KB Parrish in 1974. I worked there several years. In the spring of 1983 I moved to Lamb Lake with my 2 very young children and wife. John had me elected as Treasurer of the HOA beginning December 1983. I served in that position for the next 32 years with the understanding that he and I would rotate those duties every other year. That proved beneficial for me as I got to know quite a few members and became active in the community.
In the 1990's I was active in the bass club. John and I fished together on several tournaments away from Lamb Lake. At Lake Pickwick, from Florence , Alabama we were chased by tornadoes all the way from Nashville, TN, driving at night in downpours of rain, wind, lighting and thunder. John always seemed to keep a cool head. On Lake Guntersville, Alabama we were fishing next to a golf course.
Over the loudspeakers was a voice saying to clear the course and lake as a tornado was nearby. John and I packed up the boat and went to Burger King until the storm was over. At about 4 AM in our room at Kentucky Lake John surprised me with a fabulously prepared Screwdriver.
John and I think Nancy got us the "Team Accountants" hats to wear on our tournaments.
I have some fond memories of John including the hay-ride he and Nancy sponsored at Lamb Lake one year. Also, the annual weekend tournaments that we took our wives with us. Just a lot of good times. Thank you Nancy and John.

It is with great sadness I write to wish condolences to Nancy. My parents Bob and Jane were friends of John and Nancy here at Lamb Lake. John and Nancy were important members of the community here. Progressive dinners, cards and trips to Louisville were enjoyed by all. Lamb Lake Bassmasters still goes strong. Rest in peace John.
