John Hiram Wood passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, December 10, 2024. He was the son of Dr. Thomas P. and Nancy Wood. John was born in McComb, Mississippi on September 13, 1959. He is survived by Jeanie Lamb Wood, his loving wife of 40 years; their children and their spouses: Blair Thomas Wood (Whitney), and John Martin Wood (Sarah), and their 4 adoring grandchildren: Brooks, Mary Marshall, Lottie and Cameron Wood. John is also survived by his siblings Tom Wood, Jr. (Sally); Joe Wood (Teresa); and Tricia Merchant (Randy). He is also survived by his extended family, aunt Elaine Wood, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many loving friends.
John was devoted to Jesus and his family and was a humble servant. He was the Treasurer of St. Peter's, was president of the Rotary Club of Tallahassee, The Exchange Club of Tallahassee, and the Suwannee River Area Council Boy Scouts of America. John received the Silver Beaver Award, for exceptional character and service to the local Scout Council. He graduated with a degree in accounting from Florida State University and was the owner and President of Capital Medical Corporation.
John is remembered not only for his accomplishments but for the way he made people feel. He talked easily with good friends as well as complete strangers. John was a man that drew near to God and he finished well in life. He will be greatly missed by many.
The service will be held on Thursday December 19, 2024 at 11 am at St. Peter's Anglican Cathedral, 4784 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, Florida, followed by a reception in the Parrish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's honor to St. Peter's Anglican Cathedral Building Fund or to the Suwannee River Area Council, BSA, mailed to 2032 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32308, or online at scountingevent.com/664-Donations. I'm so sorry to hear of John's passing. Such a kind, friendly, generous person. He always had a warm, beautiful smile and greeting for George Langford when we would see him at GRUB at lunchtime! It's too soon to say goodbye.

When he greeted me at a Bible study in which we had not seen each other in many years . We were HS teammates with respect for each other.
