John Paul Wright, 65, of Savannah, GA, passed away on October 21, 2023. He was born on January 27, 1958, in Wichita Falls, Texas to Dorothy and Weldon Wright.
John is survived by his mother Dorothy Wright, Savannah, GA; his sisters, Karen Wright Tyson, Savannah, GA, and Margaret Wright Kyle, Tulsa, OK; his nieces, Sarah Wright Blakemore, Los Angeles, CA, and Stacy Tyson Groce, Canton, GA; his great nieces, Anna Claire Richardson, Brookhaven, GA, Caroline Groce, Carbondale, CO, and Megan Groce, Eugene, OR; his uncle, Weldon C. Warren, Pearlland, TX; and cousin, Todd Warren, Pearland, TX.
John was preceded in death by his father, Col. Chaplain Weldon F. Wright of Savannah, GA; and his nephew, Jeffrey (Jeff) W. Tyson of Savannah.
John graduated from Benedictine Military School, Savannah, GA, in 1976, graduated Saint Leo College, and attended Armstrong University.
He was employed by Gulfstream and at that time got his G4 rating at the age of 30. He was the youngest G4 pilot on record to fly the G4. He worked for Transworld Oil as a pilot, based in Bermuda, and flew all over the world.
He had many adventures in his life involving flying, water and snow skiing and sailing and shared his passion for living with many.
He was active in Young Life and helped many young people get involved with church and become Christians.
John will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for his family and friends. He had a passion for music and enjoyed playing the guitar and piano in his free time. John will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.
A memorial service celebrating John's life will be held at Compassion Church East Campus, 9150 Old Montgomery Rd in Savannah, GA, on November 18 at 12:00 noon. Please join us as we celebrate John's life and honor his memory.
